My Casual Lunch Break

Coles has recently been accused of ignoring many safety
issues when it comes to workers, especially deliveries. One example is the
pressure put on truck drivers to drive a straight 14 hours. Coles’ is putting
the lives of truck drivers and surrounding motorists at risk every single day
and it was put on the shoulders of the Transport Workers’ Union to put an end
to the outrage. Since i had recently finished an internship at the TWU they
gave me a call asking if i would like to join in on a protest against Coles and
of course i was up for it. During my lunch break i headed up to Sussex St to
meet everyone helping the cause, armed with pamphlets and tshirts we marched to
the Coles supermarket a few streets down.

| yay balloons |
As we all gathered outside, shirts
hidden under our jackets, in small groups headed into the shop. As we walked
through the shops we hid pamphlets between/behind/under products in shelves and
also handed them out to shoppers who passed by. As word got around we all took
off our jackets to reveal the shirts underneath and continued the distribution.
After security informed the manager of what was going on we were escorted out,
but it was too late, the damage had been done and the word had gotten out.
After leaving the shop itself everyone gathered outside chanting ‘Coles Coles,
whose to blame, pushing safety down the chain!” surrounded by news crews and
bypassers, we started handing out balloons and more pamphlets until it was time
for me to go back to uni for my next class LOL. All in all i hope that the
attention was drawn and that coles lost many customers that day and in the
future, shop at Woolies guys please :D
